If you answered yes to 5 or more of these questions, you may want to examine the publisher’s offering more closely to make sure you’re getting what you expect without paying extra.

Think about the last time you ordered ala carte at a restaurant. Sour cream for your baked potato cost extra, for example. Salad wasn’t included either. Some book publishers use the same thinking—get the author’s attention with a seemingly inexpensive package, then charge extra for things authors want like editing or create conditions that require authors pay more such as controlling orders. And the book still hasn’t been printed! That means the first copy of the book doesn’t cost just the printing fee of $5.60. It costs all the prep costs of $2,000.00 plus $5.60! That’s mighty expensive for one book.
